Dr Robert Winkler M.D.

Robert Winkler

Dr. Robert Winkler is a Consultant in Paediatrics and Paediatric Allergy and Immunology. He works as a Consultant at Wellington Hospital and also in Private Practice. He is a Senior Lecturer at Otago University, Wellington.

He founded Childrensonlineclinic together with his wife Stephanie.

Robert is fluent in English, Spanish and German.

After finishing high school, Robert volunteered in a children’s hospital, and that was when he decided to study medicine.

During his time at university in Cologne, Germany, he realized he would love to specialize in paediatrics. As a Paediatrician, he discovered his special interest in allergology and asthma.

Robert has worked in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Australia, and the United Arabic Emirates. He now lives with his family in Wellington, New Zealand.

Robert is a Consultant in Paediatrics, Paediatric Allergy and Immunology and works at Wellington Hospital and also in private practice. He is a noted national and international speaker and loves his role as instructor at Otago University, Wellington.

He is fascinated by different approaches to medicine in various countries and appreciates the value of distinctive cultures.

He believes in scientific methods; however, he is also open to alternative strategies and wants to apply a holistic approach.

He founded Childrensonlineclinic together with his physician wife, Stephanie, to offer medical advice and second opinion to a wider range of patients and to allow easier access to medical specialists to families who live in rural regions.

In his spare time, Robert likes to be outdoors - be it on a horse, in a canoe, or on a hiking trail.

He loves to explore New Zealand together with his wife and his 3 children and is fascinated by its incredible nature and diversity.

Apart from his passion for travel, he loves to read crime stories and has an interest in history and politics. Martial arts is one of his recent passions.

Dr. Stephanie Winkler M.D.

Stephanie Winkler

Stephanie focuses on preventative medicine for babies and toddlers, including Sleep disorders, feeding and thriving issues, and excessive crying. As a mother herself, she has a passion to help other mothers learn how to deal with “normal” problems that other pediatricians, midwives, or general practitioners are quick to brush off.

Stephanie started to work at a hospital after finishing high school and subsequently decided to get into nursing.

During that time, she realized that she would love to learn more about medicine itself and that she wanted to assume more responsibility for her patients.

Stephanie studied at the University of Bonn, Germany, and after achieving her approbation as a physician, she moved to Ibiza, Spain, where she worked with her husband at a family medical centre.

She became a mother herself and developed great interest in preventive medicine for babies and toddlers, including sleep and feeding issues.

As a mother, she understands even the smallest problem that other doctors are likely to quickly brush off.

In 2014 Stephanie moved to New Zealand with her family and quickly came to appreciate the uncomplicated lifestyle and the friendliness of the Kiwis.

In her spare time, she loves to travel and to be out and about in nature. She enjoys photography, horseback riding and water sports.


Christoph Aring

Dr. Christoph has more than 30 years experience as a Paediatrician. His work encompasses a wide range of both medical practice and services, including child developmental care, social Paediatrics, Public health service and early intervention for children with developmental risks.

Christoph is fluent in English and German.

Christoph studied medicine at the university of Dusseldorf, Germany.

He was fascinated by the secret world of medicine and the many possibilities it offered to become involved and make a difference.

He then specialized in Paediatrics and also became a Neonatologist.

In his daily work he focuses on premature babies and children with disabilities.

He met Robert in the early 1990’ s in the Childens hospital of Cologne and they have stayed in contact since.

Christoph has worked in the Philippines and also in India.

He now works as a Consultant and Medical Director of Paediatrics in Viersen, Germany.

He is well known as a an expert for long term ventilation and also in rare diseases.

Christoph considers himself a very optimistic person. He is fascinated by working with families and believes in solutions more than in problems .

In his spare time he loves music and also dancing, mainly argentine tango.


Jennifer Douglas

Jennifer Douglas is a Dietitian and nutrition consultant with over 10 years’ experience working in community and hospital settings throughout New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Jennifer specialises in Paediatrics, Allergy and Gastroenterology.

After finishing school Jennifer started a double degree in nutrition and physical education at University of Otago. Her interest in nutrition grew after an illness that required alterations of her own diet to manage her health. Jennifer continued study to become a registered Dietitian following postgraduate training in Dietetics.

Jennifer enjoys all areas of nutrition and improving health outcomes with a diet. Her specialty areas are children’s nutrition and gut health. Jennifer has worked in hospitals and in community settings in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Jennifer owns her own private practice in Dunedin, NZ, and works with Children's Online Clinic as a Dietitian consultant.

Jennifer loves the outdoors and spends a lot of her time walking, mountain biking and exploring her home town, Dunedin. Jennifer has two children of her own and understands the challenges that come with eating well with a busy family. 



Claire McHugh

Claire McHugh qualified as a dietician at the University of Pretoria in 1999 and went on to specialise in Paediatric nutrition in the UK, where she worked for 8 years. She has been in private practice since 2009 specialising in paediatric and infant nutrition.

She has been in private practice since 2009 specialising in paediatric and infant nutrition.

She works closely with paediatricians; GP’s and nurses in the hospital and outpatient setting managing nutrition of children; from premature infants to teenagers. She is also a qualified lactation consultant and consults to new mums assisting and educating them on breastfeeding.

Alongside this, Claire also provides a part time service to the busy adult wards at Alberlito and Victoria Hospitals. This service includes nutrition care of patients in the ICU, medical and surgical wards.

Claire is a well-known speaker in her field and has presented research and done numerous scientific talks for large multinational nutrition companies on topics relating to child nutrition.

She has also written articles, presented on radio and television for a variety of magazines and parenting websites and programs.

Claire is the nutrition expert for the Pampers institute and Mamahood South Africa. She also works for Woolworths doing store tours and nutrition education in schools.

Claire is the founder and director of a nutrition education tool- “Healthy plate Healthy me’.

Claire has a special interest in allergy and serves on the executive committee for the dietician’s interest group of ALLSA.


Megan Birkett

Megan Birkett is a South African registered dietitian. She is currently living in Vietnam where she completed her Master of Science degree in Dietetics in 2018.

She has experience with working with malnourished children as well as having worked in a hospital setting where she coordinated specific meals for patients with many different nutritional needs such as food allergies and gut disorders. She has a special interest in paediatric nutrition and offering family-friendly dietary advice.
